Brookfield High School

On Monday, November 12th I went to my local High school for the first time. The name of the school was Brookfield High School and it belongs to the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. (Schools in Canada are divided into districts and teachers acquire seniority in the district they work for.)

Brookfield High School is a grade 9 to 12 community school. Brookfield students are organized into grade-specific forms as follows:
  • Grade 9: 8 classes
  • Grade 10: 8 classes
  • Grade 11: 9 classes
  • Grade 12: 9 classes
Students at this school can study all the necessary subjects in order to complete their secondary studies and there is also a very good arts programme where students can complete grade 12 level credits in Drama, Visual Arts and Music.

Schedule:
 9:05 – 10:20
Period 1
10:25 – 11:40
Period 2
11:40 – 12:25
Lunch
12:30 – 1:45
Period 3
 1:50  – 3:05

Students have four classes in each term. They have four subjects every day from Mon-Fri from September to January. And four subjects every day from Mon-Fri from February to June. So they have a total of eight subjects in one school year.

This school has a wide range of clubs such as an Arts Club, a Diversity Club, a Ski and Snowboard Club, an Environmental/Clean-up team, a Chess club, Tech crew, Anime Club, Multicultural Club, International Students Club, Muslim Club and they even have a Star Wars Club for Star Wars fans.

The school also has an Athletic Association and a School Band. Therefore, it is very complete and caters for all.
